New Preconfigured COTS Rugged Systems from GE Reduce Time-To-Market and Design Risk

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA  January 18 2011  GE Intelligent Platforms today announced a new family of rugged, off-the-shelf systems designed to reduce the cost and time-to-market of developing solutions for a range of military vehicle platforms including UAVs, s manned and unmanned ground vehicles and launch vehicles.  The CRS-C2P-3CC1 and CRS-C3P-3CB1 are 2-slot and 3-slot pre-validated, application-ready, CompactPCI®-based computer systems. They are available in a wide range of application-specific configurations that can be delivered in a rugged, convection- or base plate cooled 3U chassis.  These computers are supplied as standard with a Freescale™-based single board computer and the VxWorks® real-time operating system and feature I/O capabilities including Ethernet, serial, USB, MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429 as well as discrete I/O.

“These two boxes are just the beginning for GE’s COTS Rugged Systems; we will announce similar systems based on OpenVPX in the coming months,” said Paul Scanlon, General Manager, Military & Aerospace Systems, GE Intelligent Platforms. “With budgets constrained more than they have ever been, customers are increasingly looking for off-the-shelf solutions that are readily available and require minimal effort and expense to deploy. With these new systems, our customers will be able to eliminate the frustration, time and expense often associated with designing, integrating, testing and qualifying their custom solution –  but they will retain the configuration flexibility that will allow them to ensure an optimum fit with the planned application. The CRS-C2P-3CC1 and CRS-C3P-3CB1 will allow them to rapidly deploy their solution, begin vehicle-level testing, and see revenue sooner.”

The CRS-C2P-3CC1 and CRS-C3P-3CB1 integrate GE Intelligent Platforms boards and modules, drawn from GE’s wide selection of COTS boards, into open modular systems  that are tested and qualified for rugged systems deployment. They are configured with a single board computer featuring a Freescale MPC7448 processor operating at 1.4GHz, together with 512Mbytes of RAM and 256MB of Flash memory.  The CRS-C2P-3CC1 has dimensions of (H x W x D) 3.96” x 7.15” x 9.03” (excluding connectors) and weighs only 11 pounds; and the CRS-C3P-3CB1 has dimensions of (H x W x D) 5.60” x 4.25” x 8.76” (excluding connectors) and weighs only 9 pounds.
