HUNTSVILLE, Ala.— February 9, 2016 Abaco Systems today announced that it was chosen by Mentor Graphics as the winner of “Best Overall Design” in Mentor’s 26th annual PCB Technology Leadership Awards. The award acknowledges engineers and designers who use innovative methods and design tools to address today’s complex PCB systems design challenges and produce industry-leading products.
The honor recognizes the design of Abaco’s recently-announced SBC347D, a rugged 3U OpenVPX single board computer, and illustrates Abaco’s commitment to deliver innovative rugged embedded products to customers with optimal SWaP (size, weight and power).
The design team for the SBC347D included Jim Rose, Zeshan Hussain, Eric Mills and Peter Woodruff.
According to Ian McCormick, CAE/CAD Section Manager at Abaco, the award acknowledges his team’s capability to overcome significant challenges with component density, thermal management and signal integrity to deliver a high performance, compact product with an extended operating range.
“The Mentor software has evolved to support the latest technologies and provide engineers with the functionality needed to design cutting edge products,” said McCormick. “The integration of various tool suites such as Schematic Entry, PCB Layout, FPGA and Signal Integrity speeds up the design process and reduces the risk of errors. It also provides ways of exchanging data between the mechanical and electronic design functions. This is very important as it provides the ability to refine the design for best thermal performance, as well as cutting cycle time.”
“This award reaffirms that Abaco Systems has the capability to produce world class solutions for a very demanding market,” said Bernie Anger, CEO of Abaco Systems. “This is the sixth time we have entered the competition, and the fifth time we have won. We’re delighted to receive this recognition from Mentor Graphics.”
